Head coach Vincent Kompany was rushed to hospital after collapsing following a training session at Bayern Munich. The Belgian manager had returned to pitchside duties earlier in the week following a viral infection, Belgian public broadcaster Sporza reports, citing statements released by the German football club.
Sudden collapse following viral illness
Kompany had resumed leading first-team sessions after recovering from the infection that sidelined him earlier in the week. Following Friday's training session, however, the Belgian coach became unwell and collapsed, prompting the medical team to intervene immediately and transfer him to a local hospital for further evaluation.
The sporting leadership at the club quickly issued a statement regarding their manager's health, stressing that full medical care and patience remain the absolute priority.
“Vinnie gets all the necessary medical care and support, and all the time he needs,” stated sporting director Max Eberl on the official Bayern Munich website.
Medical monitoring and recovery period
The club has not yet disclosed specific diagnostic details regarding the underlying cause of the collapse or how long Kompany will remain under observation in hospital. Further updates on the team's operational coaching schedule will depend on recommendations issued by the medical staff supervising his treatment.
