In the Antwerp murder probe into the violent death of 37-year-old Ion Poienaru, suspect Alexandru Jacota initially denied any involvement. Police investigators rapidly ruled out suicide after finding evidence of severe violence inside an apartment.
Crime scene reveals 23 stab and cut wounds
Forensic examination established that Poienaru died under extremely brutal circumstances. The victim's body showed 23 stab and cut wounds, making a self-inflicted incident impossible according to investigators.
Belgian authorities focused their attention on Alexandru Jacota after tracing blood evidence in the residence. Despite these forensic indications, Jacota insisted during initial questioning that he was not responsible for the fatal attack.
Story of masked intruders presented to police
To explain the scene, Jacota offered an alternative narrative to detectives. As reported by HLN, the suspect claimed that unidentified individuals had stormed the premises:
“Plots stonden er drie gemaskerde mannen voor de deur.”
Jacota claimed he narrowly managed to escape the altercation. Antwerp prosecutors and forensic experts are continuing their verification of physical evidence to evaluate the credibility of his statements.
